Cape Town City Owner, John Comitis Fears Sponsorship Losses Due To Coronavirus Lockdown

"The priority is of course the safety of our players, first and foremost. But we need to resume playing football as soon as possible otherwise the industry will collapse. We need to figure out a way to start playing again – having crowds is a sweetener, but people can watch from home.

Playing behind closed doors is not an issue. We don't get large crowds anyway, unless we are playing Chiefs or Pirates. This is our bread and butter and if we don't get back to playing, we are losing our sponsorship revenue.

We are in the business of advertising and exposure for players – and that comes with playing matches. If we don't, there will be a snowball effect. If we leave this too long, we will have broken contracts and have to dip into our reserves.

We will manage between now and June, but beyond that, the industry will collapse."
