Tyroane Sandows
Young South African attacker Tyroane Sandows made history in the early hours of this morning when he became the first South African to win the Copa do Brasil. Read: Chiefs Safe From Backlash The 21-year-old managed to break into Gremio's first team this season in his bid to make a name for himself in Brazil after spending time in the youth ranks of both his current club and Sao Paulo, and recently grabbed his first senior assist in the Brazilian Serie A. Now, as he continues his transition into a first-team player, the South Africa U23 international has got his hands on his first trophy after Gremio won the Copa do Brasil for a record fifth time with a 4-2 aggregate win over Atletico Mineiro. Sandows was not able to feature in the 1-1 draw that began at 01h45 (SA time) this morning, but he did get to join in his side's celebrations as they got their hands on the title for the first time since 2001. Gremio will now turn their attentions to their final Serie A game of the season against Botafogo – while a Copa Libertadores spot is still mathematically possible, it is an unlikely target for Sandows and his teammates.
