Thembinkosi Lorch finds himself in a tricky position as the end of the season approaches, with his short-term loan deal at Wydad Athletic Club set to expire.

The 32-year-old is currently on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns and has enjoyed a revival in form since his move to Morocco. He was named Wydad’s Player of the Month for March and recently scored a stunning goal against AS FAR.
However, Lorch’s future is now unclear following the departure of coach Rulani Mokwena, who was instrumental in bringing him to the Botola Pro side. Mokwena’s sacking by Wydad earlier this month has cast doubt on whether the club intends to pursue a permanent deal for the former Orlando Pirates star.
By rule, Lorch is expected to return to Sundowns once the loan period concludes.
But his prospects at Chloorkop remain bleak, as limited playing time was the main reason behind the temporary switch to North Africa in the first place. There has been no indication that the current Sundowns technical team led by coach Miguel Cardoso sees him as part of their long-term plans.
Wydad in turn, have not made any public declaration about retaining Lorch, and any permanent transfer would require them to negotiate a fee with Sundowns, where Lorch is still under contract.

At 32, Lorch is keen to play regularly and build on the momentum he’s found in Morocco, but whether that happens at Wydad, or elsewhere, is unclear at this stage.
The Moroccan club has recently been linked with the possibility of attempting to keep the South African, but it remains to be seen if their reported intention would be successful.
