For the second time in two weeks, Percy Tau was shunned by Brighton and Hove Albion coach Graham Potter, as speculation mounts regarding his future at the club.
Last week, Tau was left out of Brighton's final pre-season fixture against Spanish outfit Getafe, with Potter attributing his absence to personal reasons, none of which were disclosed.
In what came as a bit of a shock, the 27-year-old was then registered as part of the Seagulls' 25-man squad for the 2021/22 season, with the manager revealing that Tau was in training and available for their Premier League opener against Burnley on Saturday.
However, Tau was once again left out in the cold by Potter, adding fuel to speculation that he is on his way out of the club.
When asked about Tau's absence, the Albion boss referred to "personal reasons" for the player being left out of the squad completely – although he once again failed to disclose those reasons, especially with the club's main striker in Danny Welbeck currently injured.
Tau has been linked with a move to Egyptian side Al Ahly for a number of weeks with his former Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane publicly revealing his desire to 'save' Tau, who according to the 57-year-old, 'has not played football for four years'.
"He has to decide if he wants to play football, but first he must look after the finances. If he can get the same money that he was getting in the EPL at Al Ahly, then he can be the king of the continent, king of the jungle if he is happy to come on board and happy to show people what he is capable of, he's not showing people what he is capable of, he's about to retire, he's 28," Mosimane said in a recent interview.
