Contrary to popular belief, Percy Tau says his blockbuster move from Brighton Hove Albion to Al Ahly was not solely influenced by coach Pitso Mosimane.
Tau spilled the beans in a recent interview with Al Ahly TV.
The 27-year-old touched on a host of topics including the negotiations between Ahly and Brighton, the difference between playing for Mamelodi Sundowns and the Red Eagles as well as his famous celebration.
Tau, who has hit the ground running in the Egyptian Premier League with six goals in eight games so far was asked about the role that Mosimane played in him making the journey to Egypt.
The two share a longstanding working relationship stemming from the time Mosimane recalled the speedy attacker from his loan spell with his hometown Witbank Spurs before setting the scene alight at Sundowns, winning a host of trophies including the 2016 CAF Champions League title.
Despite their history, Tau says there were other factors that were taken into consideration besides just Mosimane's presence at the club.
"The role [he played]? I always knew him, but I did not think much about it because it was more of me going to play for Al Ahly and understanding that I will be representing a bigger club. And that I have to go there and do my best even though I knew he is here," Tau told Al Ahly TV
"He is someone that I have worked with. He is gonna help me and try and be better for me, challenge me and make me a better player – but he didn't play a huge role.
"I think there were other factors that were more important that I had to consider, but with him being here, it does help me," Tau added.
