It's been eight months since his surprise move to the United States of America and George Lebese finally got to prove his worth at the weekend.
The former Kaizer Chiefs, Mamelodi Sundowns and SuperSport United winger had initially joined USL Championship side Switchbacks FC as one of the winter signings just before Christmas as he looked for a fresh start.

Lebese made his official debut in March when his new club was 2-1 victors against Oklahoma City, but the league – in the second tier of USA soccer, was then suspended due to the Coronavirus pandemic at the time.
It resumed four months later and Lebese has featured in three more games since, and finally got on the score sheet at the weekend despite Switchbacks losing 2-1 to Real Monarchs at the Weidner Field in Colorado.
Even though he was on the pitch for 71 minutes, Lebese also walked away with the Man of the Match award and a goal from the penalty spot.

The South African signed a one-year long deal with Switchbacks, which is meant to expire in November, so it remains to be seen what the future holds for Lebese beyond that.
Speaking after the game he said: "I am happy to have gotten a goal today, but it means nothing for me, honestly because we didn't get anything out of the game. If I hadn't scored and we got the points, then it means something. I would have been happy. But it was just one of those games."
