Following confirmation that he tested positive for COVID-19, a South African young star has made a big step in his career after making first team debut for his club in Portugal.
Two months ago, it had been confirmed in Portuguese media that that Mzansi youngster Sphephelo 'Yaya' Sithole tested positive for COVID-19.
The young midfielder has been playing for Belenenses' U23 side in Portugal's Liga Revelacoa.
Having since recovered from the deadly virus, the good news for the 21-year-old KZN Football Academy graduate is that he made his first team debut for the Portuguese outfit this week and did well.
"Congratulations to KZN Football Academy graduate, Sphephelo "Yaya" Sithole for making his debut for Portugal's Primeira Liga Club, Belenenses first team tonight. The team drew 1 - 1 with SC Braga away from home. Yaya came in as a substitute and made a positive impact in the match. We are mighty proud of the young man from Ulundi. May this be a start of great things to come," the KZN academy said in a statement on their official Facebook page this week.
Sithole caught the attention of the Belenenses' first team with his fine performances from more than 20 matches he played for the U23 side this season.
