Could Mokwena Leave Early? Rulani Responds To Fan Revolt

Could Mokwena Leave Early? Rulani Responds To Fan Revolt

Under fire Wydad Athletic head coach Rulani Mokwena has responded to calls by the club's fans to have him sacked following a number of disappointing results.

Pressure is mounting on Mokwena, who has endured a tough start to his tenure as Wydad coach.

In the two months that the 37-year-old has been at the helm of the Moroccan giants, he has tasted three defeats in eight matches, with only three wins and two draws to his name.

The latest defeat, which came in the form of a shock 1-0 result to a 10-man Berkane side has left the fans up in arms over the club's performances, and subsequently calling for Mokwena's head.

However, the coach believes that the club is on the right path as he maintains belief in the project he undertook in July this year.

"I believe in this team, I believe in the staff and I believe in our work," he told journalists after the match.

"Look, we will grow but we have to experience difficult moments. The fans of Wydad know the situation and you know that no coach comes [in] when the team is in number six, with new players, a new board and a new staff.

"To be honest, I thought we would struggle more than we have. To arrive on matchday eight and to be three points away from first place, I thought it was a good start. But this is a very disappointing result, especially because we played very well. It is disappointing for me because the fans were amazing and they supported us, which influenced the performance.

"But for sure, at big clubs, you have to win games," he concluded.
