Brighton confident of bringing Tau to the Premier League

Brighton confident of bringing Tau to the Premier League

Percy Tau could possibly realise his dream of playing in the English Premier League for his Brighton Hove Albion side.

The news comes after English publication The Athletic reported that Brighton have inserted a special recall clause in the Bafana Bafana star's contract, which would see him return to his mother club in January.

Tau is currently in his third loan spell, having signed for the English outfit in 2018 and has hit the ground running for Vincent Kompany's Anderlecht side, scoring two goals in seven matches. He also spent some time in the Belgian second division with Royal Union Saint-Gilloise as well as Belgian champions, Club Brugge.

There were fears that the 'Lion of Judah' would never kick a ball for Brighton, as the stringent work permit regulations in the UK made it near impossible for the pint-sized attacker to follow in the footsteps of Steven Pienaar and Benni McCarthy amongst others to play in England's top flight.

One of the requirements is that Tau needs to be from a country that has been ranked in the World's top 50 for the last two years.

Now, Brighton are confident that amendments to work permit regulations following Brexit could see the man they paid in the region of R50 million for, finally turn out for Graham Potter's side.

Should they be successful in their quest, Tau could rejoin the Seaguls in January 2021, news that will leave South African fans brimming with pride.
