Brentford Are Set To Assess Kamohelo Mokotjo's Progress Before Making A Decision About His Future

Kamohelo Mokotjo is nearing the end of his contract with Brentford FC and reports have revealed the reason the club is yet to make a decision about his future at the club.

Mokotjo has been ruled out of action for the Championship side since January this year, however, prior to that, the 29-year-old made 24 appearances in all competitions.

Although the injury to Mokotjo has set him back in finalising his long-term future, the COVID-19 break would have worked in the player's favour as he eyes a recovery and a return back to action for The Bees.

However, according to reports in London, westlondonsport.com revealed that Brentford are now set to assess the progress of Mokotjo's fitness and decide whether they will extend his stay beyond June 30.

"Brentford will assess Kamo Mokotjo's fitness before deciding whether to offer him a short contract extension to complete the season," the website stated.

"The South African midfielder's current deal expires on June 30 and he has been out of action since January, having been sidelined by injury prior to matches being suspended because of the Coronavirus pandemic.

"The Bees have not offered him a longer-term contract as they have plenty of midfield options. Josh Dasilva thrived in Mokotjo's absence as the team cemented their play-off challenge. The Bees also signed promising youngster Shandon Baptiste from Oxford United in January and are expected to look for an experienced central midfielder this summer," westlondonsport.com added.
