McCarthy's Desire For African Adventure

McCarthy's Desire For African Adventure

After two years at Manchester United, Benni McCarthy was explicit about his desire to return to the African continent to reignite the fire of being a head coach.

McCarthy says he is hoping to take all of the lessons learnt on the biggest stage in world football at Old Trafford and use it to fuel the ambitions of one of Africa's top clubs.

The 46-year-old, not for the first time, has revealed his eagerness to return to the dugout though in a managerial capacity and he has eyed the African continent as the ideal place to start.

"What's next for me? I think, of course, it's clear that the fact that after leaving United, I think that passion for wanting to be a head coach again grew. I think that is the next step for me. So, whether it's going back to the African continent like to manage one of the big teams, the important teams, with the knowledge that I've gained working at a team like Manchester United on a global scale, which is up there with Real Madrid and the best teams in the world," McCarthy told On the Whistle Podcast.

"So, when you've been there and you've gained those kind of experience, you want to go back. If you do go back to the continent, I think that would be amazing to manage a team on the continent and then trying to make them one of the powerhouses in African football, but also to also to try and achieve reaching a final when you play in the Club World Cup," he said.
