Failure to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations and subsequently the Olympics, national under-23 coach David Notoane is expected to have a meeting with SAFA, where his future will be decided.
The under-23s were knocked out of the Afcon qualifiers by Congo after the sides played out to a 1-1 aggregate score, as the Congolese won the tie on away goals. The second leg in Congo ended goalless on Monday evening, as Notoane's men missed out on an opportunity to play in a continental competition which would have given them an opportunity to qualify for the 2024 Olympics.

After the under-23s were knocked out in the group stages of the last Olympics, Notoane had come under fire but the association put their faith in the coach to lead the team.
While there is a concern over the team's failure to qualify for AFCON which will be played later this year, the Siya crew understands that the coaching staff of the national under-23s have been worried about the team's lack of preparation leading up to the qualifiers. The under-23s don't play too many friendly matches and often get together when there is a qualifying match to play.
These are some of the concerns Notoane and his technical team could raise to the association, as this is a concern for the other junior national teams who hardly ever meet up for camps, unless there are qualifiers to play. This does not give the coaches enough time to work with the players and there is often pressure for them to qualify, even though there are no camps during international breaks for the technical team to work with the players.

SAFA could make the call to part ways with Notoane, but the association have not played much of a role to ensure the junior national teams are getting enough action before playing qualifying matches.
