After a very good start to the 2022/23 DStv Premiership, Richards Bay ended up fighting against relegation and they eventually survived.

In what has been a difficult PSL campaign, their players had to dig in and earn their place in the topflight for another season.

Many of these players are now attracting interest from rival teams in the KwaZulu-Natal province and one such player is Lesotho international Katleho Makateng.

Sources close to the team have told the Siya crew that Royal AM are interested in the 24-year-old former Lesotho Royal Defence Force player.

The source has stated that coach John Maduka has recommended that management should sign him.

"Yes, I can confirm to you that Royal AM are interested in (Katleho) Makateng. He has done very well for Richards Bay since joining them at the start of the season," said the Siya source.

"Royal AM want to strengthen their attack for the new season and the coach has identified Makateng as one of their main targets in the attacking areas.

"It remains to be seen if they will make contact with Richards Bay as soon as possible to get him," the source added.

The Lesotho international has played 16 games for the Natal Rich Boyz this season and has been influential in most of the games he has played.

When contacted for comment, Royal AM General Manager Richard Makhoba could neither deny nor confirm the reports. Makhoba didn't want to comment.
