Vilakazi, 41, took up a role at Chippa United, where he served as the club's technical director, although head coach Morgan Mammila referred to him as an assistant coach and he occupied a seat on the bench of the Chilli Boys.
However, on 9 November, the Chilli Boys announced that Vilakazi had stepped down from his role, stating that the decision had come as a shock to the club.
Vilakazi had been away from the club owing to personal reasons, the Siya crew understands.
Now, on Sunday 12 November it was confirmed that Vilakazi has been appointed as the assistant coach at Richards Bay, where he would work alongside coach Kaitano Tembo.
The news comes just hours after the Kwa-Zulu Natal based club secured a crucial victory over fellow strugglers, Cape Town Spurs.
