Venue: Danie Craven Stadium

Sihle Nduli kept his spot in the Stellenbosch line-up to make his 100th appearance for the club, while Sanele Barns came in for Khiba as the only change from Sunday's goalless draw against Simba SC in the CAF Confederation Cup.

The Chilli Boys, meanwhile, made one change from the stalemate with Kaizer Chiefs two weeks ago, with Giovanni Philander coming in for Aviwe Mqokozo on the left flank.

Steve Barker's charges carved some big chances in the first stanza, with Barns squandered a golden opening early on in the box while Khomotjo Lekolane sent his header into the side-netting around the midway point of the half.

The visitors, meanwhile, grew stronger as the first half went on but Stellies goalkeeper Oscarine Masuluke produced a couple fine saves late in the stanza to deny both Boy Madingwane and Sergio Kammies.

Stellenbosch came out firing in the second half, as Devin Titus saw his powerful shot sail inches wide of the upright while Lekolane was denied up by the woodwork on the hour mark after some high pressing.

The Chilli Boys managed to carve out a chance against the run of play with 20 minutes left on the clock, when substitute Bienvenu Eva Nga got on the end of Philander's cross but his header sailed wide of Masuluke's goal.

With time running out, Stellenbosch bagged the winning goal on 83 minutes when Barns found the far corner with a neat finish after getting on the end of Omega Mdaka's cross.
