Following a spectacular 2022/23 season, Saleng appeared to fall into what many who experienced the same fate as him did, with a slump of form.
The speedster did experience somewhat of a resurgence towards the end of the 2023/24 campaign, but he was not the same player who singlehandedly made a difference for Pirates in the season prior.
But Saleng has subsequently enjoyed a fruitful pre-season in Spain, something that was followed up with a Man of the Match performance in Pirates' MTN8 quarter final on Saturday evening, much to the delight of his coach.
"If I compare his pre-season to his past pre-season, he's in a better space now," Riveiro told journalists.
"His performances in Spain were good and today he showed what he is capable of doing. He is surrounded by a good group of players at the same time and he had a really good game. He was a constant problem for the opponent and he looked really happy after the match. I'm sure it's going to help him have another good season.
"We missed him a little bit in some moments last season. We are all happy to have him back," he added.
