Orlando Pirates defender Thabiso Sesane is understood to be making good progress in his recovery from a ruptured tendon injury, with insiders suggesting that he could be available for selection in the first half of the new season, even if he doesn’t feature in the early stages of the campaign.
The 25-year-old centre-back was ruled out for up to six months following a serious injury sustained in February during Pirates’ 2-1 league win over Sekhukhune United.

The injury forced him off the field just 18 minutes into the clash in Polokwane and was later confirmed to be a ruptured tendon, which required surgery.
At the time, the prognosis was grim, with the expectation that Sesane would miss the remainder of the 2024/25 season.
He had just begun cementing his place as a key figure in the Pirates defence, and his absence was felt as the Buccaneers suffered a heavy 4-1 defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns days later.
According to sources close to the situation, Sesane has responded well to the rehabilitation programme following his operation.
While the club has remained tight-lipped about his return date, those familiar with his recovery indicate that his return to light training could be imminent.

“He’s been doing everything asked of him in terms of recovery, and the signs are promising. He might not start the new season, but the feeling is that he could be available before the halfway mark,” said a source close to the club.
If all goes according to plan, Sesane could return to full training sometime in early spring, giving coach Abdeslam Ouaddou another option in central defence as Pirates navigate a demanding schedule that includes the Betway Premiership, CAF Champions League, and domestic cup competitions.
