Thapelo Liau – the former Orlando Pirates skilful midfielder – has been compared to the late Thabang Lebese of Kaizer Chiefs fame by his former coach Jacob Sakala.
During his long Mzansi coaching career, the Zambian mentor coached Liau and Lebese at some stage earlier in their careers, before they went on to become household names in the PSL with the Soweto giants.

Sakala says he saw similarities in the way the two talented footballers played during the prime of their careers.
"Thapelo was one player who wouldn't seem to be giving you much in training but come match day he was very good. He would give you exactly what you wanted to see as the coach," Sakala told the Siya crew.

"He was the same like Thabang Lebese. There were a lot of similar characteristics between him and Thabang Lebese," the coach added.
According to Sakala, the only notable difference between the two players was that Liau was slower than Lebese although he was intelligent.
