Despite there being over R20 million at stake for reaching the CAF Confederations Cup final, Orlando Pirates' technical team insists their focus is on making history rather than the financial rewards.
The Buccaneers have been a different team on the continent this season and it came as little surprise that they weaved their way to the final of the Confederation Cup where they will take on RS Berkane in Uyo, Nigeria on Friday.
Part of the benefits that come with making it this deep into the competition is the financial rewards.
Pirates are already guaranteed at least $625 000 (±R10.2 million) for making it into the competition's final but stand to double that should they ultimately lift the trophy with $1.25 million (±R20.4 million) at stake.
"I don't think we can run away from the fact that players and bonuses are a huge incentive for them, but us as coaches, we try to take those incentives out of the equation and when I spoke about it I said it's more about making history than the financial incentives," first-team coach Fadlu Davids told the media.
"I think making history is the ultimate target and that will be a bonus on top of everything but for us as coaches, it's not to use that (the money) as a motivational factor but to make history," he added.
The kick-off time for Friday's final is at 21:00 local time.
