Pirates' third-place finish in the Absa Premiership last season secured their return to the Confederations Cup for the first time since their journey to the final in 2015.
The Buccaneers will draw inspiration from that telling run, which saw them overcome perennial giants Al Ahly 5-3 on aggregate following a pulsating two-legged semi-final affair.
Kermit Erasmus, Thamsanqa Gabuza, Thabo Rakhale and Thabo Matlaba all got on the scoresheet in the second leg to secure a 4-3 second leg win, while Felipe Ovono produced some heroics to keep the Egyptians at bay.
In the final, Bucs were defeated 2-1 over two legs by Etoile Du Sahel, and despite a Gabuza goal in the first leg, the Buccaneers fell short to the esteemed Tunisians.

Now, with a new-look side that boasts an abundance of depth and talent as well as a motivational coach in Josef Zinnbauer, this Pirates side who recently ended their six-year trophy drought by winning the MTN8, will be hoping to go one better than their 2015 counterparts.
Pirates' first test comes in the form of Sagrada Esperança, a team that is very much a closed book for the Soweto giants, which will prove an interesting test for Zinnbauer's side as they look to close off 2020 in style.
The match is scheduled for kick off at 16:00.
