‘Nasri’ Mphaki Impresses – Pirates Eye Recall For Wits Loanee

Orlando Pirates are believed to be monitoring a teen sensation who is attracting interest from several clubs in the Betway Premiership.

The exciting young winger is Thabo Mphaki and he belongs to the Buccaneers but is currently on loan.

Mphaki is understood to be edging closer to a potential first-team breakthrough at the Soweto giants, sources close to the club have revealed.

The 18-year-old, nicknamed Nasri for his creativity and flair, is currently on loan at Wits and has impressed with his consistent performances.

A right-footed winger with remarkable stamina and technical ability, Mphaki is being closely monitored by Pirates’ technical team ahead of the new season.

According to insiders, Pirates are seriously considering recalling Mphaki from his loan spell as they assess options to strengthen their squad – particularly with uncertainty surrounding the head coaching position following speculation over Jose Riveiro’s future.

“Mphaki is one of the most promising players in the Pirates system right now,” said a source. “He’s been impressive at Wits, showing maturity beyond his years. There’s a strong possibility he’ll be recalled to fight for a first-team place, especially if a new coach wants to work with fresh, young talent,” the source said.

Once a standout in the Kaizer Chiefs development ranks, Mphaki first drew national attention back in 2022 when, at just 15, he lit up the Engine Championships in Emmarentia. Scouts from Pirates, Mamelodi Sundowns, and even Portugal were reportedly tracking him at the time.

His journey has continued upward since then. While still registered with Pirates, his time at Wits has allowed him to develop physically and tactically, attracting new suitors along the way.

“Thabo Mphaki has recently attracted interest from Sekhukhune United, TS Galaxy, and Orbit College FC. His form at Wits has been hard to ignore,” said a source close to the player.

“He’s matured a lot since his days at Chiefs development, and Pirates could decide it’s time to integrate him into the senior setup,” the source added.
