Pirates’ Unbeaten Push: A New Chapter Under Ncikazi?

Mandla Ncikazi, currently serving as Orlando Pirates’ interim head coach, has made a compelling case for his continued involvement with the club beyond the current season. Since stepping into the role following Jose Riveiro’s departure, Ncikazi has guided the Buccaneers to a commendable four points from two matches: a 1-1 draw against TS Galaxy at home and a 1-0 victory over SuperSport United away.

With upcoming fixtures against AmaZulu this Saturday and Magesi FC next Wednesday, Ncikazi has the opportunity to conclude the season unbeaten under his interim tenure.

Ncikazi’s association with the Soweto giants dates back to 2021, initially joining as an assistant under Josef Zinnbauer, and later stepping up as a co-coach alongside Fadlu Davids.

Despite a subsequent shift to an assistant role under Riveiro, Ncikazi remained an integral part of the technical team.

His contributions were notably recognised during Pirates’ journey to the CAF Confederation Cup final in 2022.

The club’s management has consistently valued Ncikazi’s professionalism and alignment with Pirates’ principles.

An insider highlighted that, “Mandla Ncikazi is valued highly at the club and his contribution in the team is important.” This sentiment highlights the respect he commands within the institution.

While the search for a new head coach is underway, Ncikazi’s deep understanding of the club’s culture and his connection with the players, position him as a strong candidate for continued involvement.

His adaptability and commitment to the team’s philosophy have been evident throughout his tenure.
