With Sinoxolo Kwayiba expected to complete a high-profile move from Chippa United to Orlando Pirates at the end of the current season, interest in the midfielder is starting to grow beyond South African borders.
Sources have now indicated that a club in Algeria has expressed interest in the Bafana Bafana rising star – but a transfer up north of the continent is currently seen as unlikely.

“There is interest in Sinoxolo Kwayiba from Algeria,” a source close to the situation told Soccer Laduma. “One of the clubs has made initial contact and has been monitoring him, but the reality is that the player is expected to join Pirates. That deal is quite advanced, and unless something drastic happens, he will be at Pirates next season.”
Kwayiba has enjoyed a breakthrough season with the Chilli Boys, catching the eye with his composure, work rate, and versatility in the heart of midfield.
His performances also earned him a call-up to Bafana, further boosting his profile domestically and abroad.
Algerian League Gains South African Talent
If Kwayiba had opted to move to North Africa, he would have joined a growing number of South African players plying their trade in Algeria and Tunisia. National teammate Khanyisa Mayo currently plays for CR Belouizdad, one of Algeria’s top clubs, after securing a move last year.
Meanwhile, Elias Mokwana, another highly-rated South African international, is with Esperance de Tunis in Tunisia.
These moves highlight a growing trend of North African clubs targeting top talent from Mzansi, who bring both quality and international experience to the Maghreb leagues.
Pirates Stars Also on Al Ahly Radar
In recent months, interest from North Africa hasn’t been limited to Kwayiba. Egyptian giants Al Ahly have been linked with several Pirates stars, including teenage sensation Relebohile Mofokeng, attacker Monnapule Saleng, and emerging prospect Mbekezeli Mbokazi. The Egyptian powerhouse has been scouting Southern Africa closely as they continue to strengthen their squad with quality players from across the continent.

Despite the interest from Algeria, Kwayiba looks set to remain in the Betway Premiership, where he will likely play a central role in the Buccaneers’ midfield rebuild for next season.
A move to North Africa could still be on the cards in the future, but for now, his journey appears destined to continue in black and white.
