New Coach, New Face: Pirates Confirm Mbule Signing

New Coach, New Face: Pirates Confirm Mbule Signing

JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA - APRIL 27: Sipho Mbule of Sekhukhune warm up during the Betway Premiership match between TS Galaxy and Sekhukhune United at Dobsonville Stadium

Orlando Pirates have confirmed the acquisition of Sipho Mbule as the Soweto giants begin reshaping their squad for the upcoming 2025/26 season under newly appointed head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou.

Mbule recently parted ways with Mamelodi Sundowns following a spell that ended with a loan at Sekhukhune United.

The 27-year-old did well in the first half of this past season with Babina Noko, making 14 appearances in the league in total, scoring two goals and two assists.

But due to reported off-the-field issues he was later released from the club.

The Brazilians, who are currently at the FIFA Club World Cup in the US, had an option to extend the talented player’s contract but opted against doing so.

The former SuperSport United player becomes the Buccaneers’ first signing officially announced by the club.

The move signals intent from the Buccaneers as they prepare to challenge for both domestic and continental honours in the new campaign.

The announcement follows Monday’s confirmation that Abdeslam Ouaddou has taken over the reins as the new head coach, replacing Jose Riveiro, who stepped down to join Egyptian giants Al Ahly after a successful three-year tenure at Orlando.

Ouaddou, a former Moroccan international with 68 caps for the Atlas Lions, brings a blend of international experience and modern football insight, having played and coached across top European and African leagues.

The 46-year-old tactician is expected to arrive in South Africa before the end of the week, as confirmed by the Soweto giants, and will be supported by a technical team that includes Mandla Ncikazi, Rayaan Jacobs, Helmi Gueldich, and Tyron Damons.

Pre-Season Preparations and New Kits Revealed

The squad will report for pre-season training on June 27, ahead of their international tour to Marbella, Spain, from July 8 to July 20.

During the camp, Pirates are scheduled to play friendly matches against European sides including Bolton Wanderers (England), Pafos FC (Cyprus), Las Palmas (Spain), and Granada (Spain).
