Riveiro's Last League Derby: The Numbers

Riveiro's Last League Derby: The Numbers

As Jose Riveiro prepares to take charge of his last league Soweto Derby, Soccer Laduma looks back at the journey in matches against Kaizer Chiefs, with the numbers giving an insight into certain patterns.

Riveiro revealed that he will be leaving at the end of the season and would no doubt want to ensure his last Premiership derby is one to remember. With three straight victories in the fixtures, the Spaniard will feel confident that they can secure maximum points and keep Pirates in the title race.

Soccer Laduma looks at the interesting numbers from the league matches Riveiro has been involved in.

1 - The Buccaneers have conceded more than one goal in a derby against Chiefs only on one occasion. That was in the 3-2 victory in the second half of last season. In the other four matches, they have either kept a clean sheet or conceded just once.

1 - Namibian international Deon Hotto is the only player who has featured in all five Soweto Derbies.

2 - Riveiro's men have kept two clean sheets in the five matches they have played Amakhosi. Earlier this year, they kept it tight at the back as they registered a 1-0 victory. It was the same in the first half of last season as they secured a 1-0 win.

2 - Monnapule Saleng is the top scorer for Pirates in the league derbies under Riveiro, with two goals he scored in the 3-2 victory last season. Evidence Makgopa, Thabiso Lebitso and Patrick Maswanganyi all have one goal.

3 - Riveiro has used three different goalkeepers in the Soweto Derby league matches. All of Siyabonga Mpontshane, Sipho Chaine and Melusi Buthelezi have had an opportunity in goal in this clash.

4 - The Buccaneers have conceded four goals against their rivals. Three of them were conceded in the second half, which is something Riveiro would need to address going into this weekend's encounter.

5 - Pirates have scored five goals in five league matches against Amakhosi. Three of those goals have been scored in the second half, showing they are a bit more of a threat in the second half against Chiefs. The two goals they scored in the first half were netted within the first 25 minutes of play.
