Bucs Coach Explains Attacking Subs After Red Card

Bucs Coach Explains Attacking Subs After Red Card

Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro has explained his decision to make attacking changes after being reduced to ten men against Sekhukhune United.

The Buccaneers missed the chance to close in on DStv Premiership leaders Mamelodi Sundowns after losing 2-0 to Kaitano Tembo's charges.

The Soweto giants had to play the final 30 minutes with 10 men after Thabiso Monyane's sending off, Although the Spaniard responded by throwing on Deon Hotto, Kermit Erasmus, Vincent and Bandile Shandu a few minutes later when the score was still goalless.

"Ja, well we don't want to play draws even though we were in numerical inferiority, we tried to play with possibilities in attack that's why we introduced Pule and Hotto as wingers with Kermit," Riveiro told SuperSport after the game.

"I think it went quite okay but like I said, just before they scored the goal our feeling was we going to make it, that we're more close than them to score the goal but the goal they scored changed everything and from there it was just trying but with no good ideas."

The Pirates coach added that there were a number of moments where Sekhukhune were better, while he decided not to go in to Monyane's sending off.

"Like I said, it was not our best performance, there were many moments where the opponent was better than us, not through good football or dominating," he went on.

"But at least a bit more passion perhaps, yes these things happen, I didn't see the situation (of Monyane) so well but ja it's not an excuse but it's too much time without one player in this rhythm.

"Playing one game just two days ago, obviously it's possible that we will pay the bill in the end."
