The South African football fraternity continues to mourn the passing of former Orlando Pirates and Mpumalanga Black Aces striker, Tendai Ndoro.
Among those who worked closely with the Zimbabwean forward during his early days in the PSL is former Aces co-owner Mario Morfou, who has paid a heartfelt tribute to the late star.

Speaking to Soccer Laduma, Morfou expressed his sadness at Ndoro’s untimely passing.
“It was very sad news to hear about Tendai’s passing. I knew he had been struggling with illness because I spoke to him a couple of times and he told me he wasn’t well, but his passing still came as a shock. It’s a very sad day for football and, of course, for his family and friends. We send our heartfelt condolences to them and wish them strength in this very difficult time,” he said.
Morfou revealed that the Aces family had tried to assist the striker during his struggles after football.
“Whenever Tendai needed assistance, we tried our best to help, because I knew he was going through a tough time both financially and health-wise. You do what you can when someone you care about is under pressure,” he explained.
Reflecting on the player’s early days in South Africa, the former Aces boss painted a picture of a humble and determined young man who dreamed big.
“I remember him very well from his early days at Aces, when he first came to South Africa. He was a good youngster, very quiet and dedicated, and he worked hard because he had big goals for his career. At one stage, he even spoke about wanting to play in Europe. He eventually joined a big club in Pirates, which was massive for him, and he embraced that opportunity,” Morfou recalled.
Ndoro, who also turned out for Ajax Cape Town, Highlands Park, and in Saudi Arabia, was described as a player who left an indelible mark both on and off the pitch.
“He was a special player – hard-working in the dressing room, and on the field, he was a natural goal scorer. He won the hearts of many football fans in this country because of his talent and passion for the game,” Morfou added.

Closing off his tribute, Morfou had a message for Ndoro’s family.
“My final words are simply to say that I hope his family finds comfort in knowing that Tendai will always be remembered with love. The pain will ease with time, but his memory will remain in our hearts and in our thoughts,” concluded Morfou.
Ndoro’s legacy as one of the PSL’s most prolific forwards during his prime years is one that will live on among fans and former teammates alike.
