The Buccaneers endured a tough Absa Premiership are now set to finish outside the top three places. However, their only chance of reaching the CAF Confederation Cup is by wining the Nedbank Cup.
Pirates now take on Free State Stars in the semi-finals on Saturday afternoon, and Tinkler admits their opponents form will count for noting in a cup game.
"Stars are in great form at the moment but at times that form doesn't count in cup games," Tinkler told the media.
"We made it clear that we want to go back to Africa next year and after failing to finish in the top three in the league, we need to win this trophy to make sure we compete in Africa again.
"We know with Stars form at the moment it won't be easy but the guys are ready to fight for us to reach the finals."
