Nedbank Cup Report: Mamelodi Sundowns 0-2 Orlando Pirates 23 April 2016

Nedbank Cup Report: Mamelodi Sundowns 0-2 Orlando Pirates 23 April 2016
Nedbank Cup    Result: Mamelodi Sundowns 0-2 Orlando Pirates (AET)   Date: 23 April 2016   Venue: Lucas Moripe Stadium   Orlando Pirates netted twice in extra-time to beat defending Nedbank Cup champions Mamelodi Sundowns 2-0 to move into the semifinals.   The clash was off to a fiery start as Edwin Gyimah attempted to stamp his authority with some hard tackling on Khama Billiat. The centre-back tackled the Zimbabwean from behind before leading with an elbow while challenging in the air, earning him a yellow card.   Luvuyo Memela produced a gem of a through-ball shortly thereafter to put Thabo Rakhale into space, but the winger's first touch let him down and the chance went to waste.   There was a rare shot at goal in the 23rd minute when Sifiso Myeni found himself in some space just outside the Sundowns box. He unleashed an effort but saw it fly well over.   The best chance of the half came in the 41st minute when Leonardo Castro was put through in the right channel. He smashed a volley on target but Brighton Mhlongo pulled off a terrific save.   The score remained locked at 0-0 as the sides enter change rooms at the halftime break.
The Brazilians forced a fantastic save from Mhlongo yet again in the 55th minute when Castro teed up Billiat who rifled one towards the top corner of the goal.   Disaster struck for Pirates in the 71st minute as they were reduced to 10 men. Gyimah slid in harshly on Billiat and was shown his second yellow card.   There was a big penalty appeal from Sundowns when Nyauza's hand was struck by the ball, but the referee waved it away. At the other end Ndoro had a half-chance but shot well over.   Pirates came close when Makola provided a good chance for Issa Sarr from a free kick, but the defensive midfielder's headed effort bounced over.   Mhlongo had more work to do in the last few minutes of normal time as he had to come off his line to clear when Cuthbert Malajila was through, and then had to foul Dolly outside the box to prevent even greater problems.   The game went into extra-time and looked set for a penalty shoot-out. However, in the 112th minute Tendai Ndoro ran onto a long diagonal ball and produced a fine placed finish.   A few minutes later the victory was secured as Ndoro turned provider, holding the ball on the left before squaring for Makola to finish for a 2-0 result.
  Here's how they lined up:    Sundowns: 36 Onyango, 16 Mphahlele (Mashego 111'), 4 Langerman, 2 Nthethe, 6 Arendse, 33 Mabunda (Malajila 83'), 8 Kekana, 25 Castro (Modise 61'),18 Zwane, 20 Billiat, 7 Dolly   Pirates: 16 Mhlongo, 2 Gcaba, 8 Matlaba, 5 Makola, 7 Ndoro, 11 Myeni (Qalinge 103'), 18 Sarr, 25 Rakhale (Motupa 65'), 33 Gyimah, 34 Nyauza, 37 Memela (Jele 75')
