Gustavo Paez came off the bench to net a brace as Kaizer Chiefs came from behind to defeat Acornbush United 2-1 to advance to the Nedbank Cup quarterfinals.
Chiefs enjoyed most of the ball in the early stages, but were finding it tough to break down the hosts' defence.
Acornbush should have taken the lead in the 20th minute as Mduduzi Nkosi managed to round Itumeleng Khune, but with the goal at his mercy, he fired wide.
Chiefs wasted a chance of their own three minutes when Joseph Molangoane was played through on goal, however the midfielder failed to beat Acornbush goalkeeper, Sibusisio Masuku from close range.
However, Acornbush were reduced to 10 men in the 27th minute when Sandy Nyathi was shown a straight red card for late challenge on Willard Katsande.
Despite being a man down, the hosts broke the deadlock in the 43rd minute as Nkosi lifted a cross to the far post where Mudzunga Sidumo was on hand to head past Khune, 1-0.
Steve Komphela opted for a change at the start of the second half, as Gustavo Paez replaced defender Sibusiso Khumalo.
The second half was interrupted by a number of stoppages due to injuries, which disrupted the flow of the encounter, much to the annoyance of the visitors.
With Chiefs struggling in the final third, Komphela withdrew Kgosto Moleko and introduced William Twala after 65 minutes.
Chiefs eventually leveled matters in the 78th minute as Bernard Parker played in Paez, who sent a fine volley into the far corner.
Komphela's side then took the lead in the 84th minute as Parker picked out Paez once again and the Venezuelan slotted home from six-yards out, 1-2.
