Benni McCarthy Takes Aim At Eric Tinkler

Benni McCarthy Takes Aim At Eric Tinkler

Head Coach Benni McCarthy is doubtful that one of his players would be able to play again this season.

Cape Town City secured a 3-0 win over Highlands Park in the Nedbank Cup competition, booking their spot in the quarter-finals, however, their sweet victory was slightly dampened by an injury to two of their key players.

Roland Putsche had to be substituted in the encounter, with unconfirmed reports revealing that the player may have damage to his meniscus.

In addition, Thabo Nodada also picked up a knock, although McCarthy revealed that the player might just have some bruising.

However, it seems that Putsche could have played his last game of the season for City, with McCarthy hopeful for better news, although feels in his gut that the player may be out for quite some time.

"Thabo got stamped on, so he's got three stud marks, hopefully, it is not penetrated in the flesh, so it is just bruised, Thabo is a tough cookie, I think Thabo will be okay for our next match," McCarthy said after the game.

"But, Roland, he pushed himself these last few weeks because the team was doing well, we were winning (and) you feel that your place is in jeopardy so I think today (Friday) we made a tactical change to try and match them for the physicality of the game so that's why Teko got dropped and Roland came in.

"Now when you think about it, if I had known this would happen I would keep the team as it was and (not) make the change because maybe we would have still had Roland available. But it doesn't look good and we are going to wait and see how bad it really is, but my genuine feeling, I think it is game over, season gone, touch wood," he added.
