The Egyptian was named the 2018 African Footballer of the Year by CAF, beating competition from Sadio Mane and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

This season, he will likely be among the final three contenders for the accolade again after his role in Liverpool's impressive campaign, one that could still result in the club claiming the Premier League and UEFA Champions League titles.

The Reds rewarded Salah with a new contract in July, raising his weekly wages from £120 000 (R2.2 million) to £200 000 (R3.7 million).

As a consequence, the Egyptian superstar is the joint highest-earning African in England, on par with Arsenal's Aubameyang.

Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha follows, somewhat surprisingly, in third place with weekly wages of £130 000 (R2.4 million).

Salah's teammate Naby Keita and Manchester City's Riyad Mahrez complete the top five, with both pocketing £120 000 (R2.2 million) a week, while Sadio Mane receives £100 000 (R1.8 million) weekly, but he is expected to, sooner or later, get an improved deal following his impressive 2018/19 campaign.
