GladAfrica Championship Wrap

There were a number of upsets in the GladAfrica Championship, where log leaders, Richards Bay FC, dropped vital points in a goalless draw against lowly Bizana Pondo Chiefs, TS Sporting hammered Jomo Cosmos 3-1 and Cape Town All Stars stunned JDR Stars 2-1.

Furthermore, there were wins for Polokwane City, Uthongathi FC, Royal AM and Sekhukhune United.

Ezenkosi and Abantu Bemthetho produced a dramatic encounter at the Tsakane Stadium with all four goals, including two penalties, coming well before half time.

The match was also halted in the second half due to dangerous lightning strikes but in the end, Sporting overtook Cosmos on goal difference, thanks to Matome Mabeba, Ange Lebahi and Kamohelo Sithole.

At one point, Seun Ledwaba converted from the spot to level matters however, Dr Sono's club sunk to the lower half of the log after being top in early January.

Igugu Lekapa gave the Hammer Boys something to think about with a spectacular last-gasp free kick by Ronaldo Maarman, which was due reward for not giving up until the final whistle.

Earlier, Vusimuzi Mncube opened the scoring for JDR before Ndiviwe Mdabuka brought matters level.

Another team on the decline is University of Pretoria, whose 1-0 away loss to Polokwane City, happened to be their seventh defeat.

On the contrary, Rise and Shine are back in the top eight after a single strike from Salulani Phiri, his first of the campaign.

After five games without a positive result, the Cane Cutters finally bounced back to outwit the Spirited Ones 2-0, thanks to goals from Saziso Magawana and Khethukuthula Ndlovu, both bringing their totals to three.

It's now five successive matches in which the Cape side has failed to find the back of the net.

Royal AM moved to within a point of Richards Bay after beating Pretoria Callies 3-2 with Tebogo Reed, Tshepo Malope on the scoresheet, while

Cape Town Spurs and Steenberg United shared the points in a 1-1 draw. Meanwhile, Babina Noko pipped Free State Stars 1-0, thanks to Thabang Sibanyoni.
