The Buccaneers seem to have got over the shaky start after claiming back-to-back wins in the league, the last of which was a 3-1 win over Chippa United last weekend.
The win over the Chilli Boys took Pirates up to fourth spot on the league standings, two points behind this afternnoon's oppenents.
Sundowns extended their unbeaten start to the league season with a 3-0 triumph over TS Galaxy last Sunday after beating Kaizer Chiefs the week earlier.
The defending champions will cement top spot for another weekend should they secure maximum points at Orlando Stadium this afternoon.
Sundowns are unbeaten in their last four meetings against Pirates across all competitions, with the last encuonter ending in a 3-0 win for the Tshwane giants last season.
