Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns will renew their rivalry in the DStv Premiership on Sunday evening at the FNB Stadium.
Teams: Kaizer Chiefs v Mamelodi Sundowns
Date: 08 May 2022
Venue: FNB Stadium
Time: 17h30
The CAF Champions League position looked out of reach for Chiefs after suffering four straight defeats in the DStv Premiership.
However, Amakhosi snapped out of their slump on Tuesday after edging Marumo Gallants 1-0 and moved up to fourth on the log, three points behind third-placed Royal AM and six points adrift of second-placed Cape Town City.
The Soweto giants will be without both Nkosingiphile Ngcobo and Njabulo Ngcobo due to injuries.
Sundowns, meanwhile, did their business early and were crowned champions with four matches to spare after a goalless draw against Cape Town City. The Brazilians received a guard honour from Sekhukhune United in their last outing before beating them 2-0.
Sundowns striker Peter Shalulile will be determined to get closer to breaking a 16-year record of 25 league goals in a season set by Collins Mbesuma after scoring his 22nd goal of the campaign against Babina Noko.
Despite wrapping up the title with four matches to spare, Sundowns won't be able to break their own record tally of 71 points in the PSL era, set in the 2015/16 season. However, the Tshwane giants can still better the 67 points-tally they accumulated last season as champions.
