After picking up form with back-to-back victories over Swallows and Chippa United, Pirates were humbled by rivals Mamelodi Sundowns, who handed them their first loss of the league season.
As a result, the Buccaneers dropped down to fifth on the log and will be looking to keep up with the chasing pack.
Going on to the Cape Town side, they had a slow start to the season, with only one win in the league but boosted their confidence with a 4-0 hammering of Swallows in the MTN8 semi-final second-leg in midweek and progressed to the final.
Eric Tinkler's charges sit in 11th spot on the log with five points, although they have a game in hand and will be motivated to get a good cushion before catching up with the rest of the teams.
This fixture between the sides produced six goals in the league last season, with Pirates having the upper hand after winning the reverse clash 2-0 on home soil although the first-round encounter ended 2-2.
