Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Themba Zwane's agent Jazzman Mahlakgane has opened up on sealing one of his toughest deals for the evergreen star.
Zwane's career at Sundowns appeared to be increasingly uncertain, after he suffered an Achilles tendon injury in October last year on national duty, after just three matches into the 2024/25 Betway Premiership season.
Especially since 'Mshishi' was offered only a one-year contract extension at the end of the 2023/24 campaign, which was criticized from various quarters, including supporters and legends of the club, who felt the Tembisa native midfielder deserved more security of contract, given the contribution he had made at the Brazilians over the years.
At 34 by the end of the 2023/24 term, Zwane had played 41 matches for Sundowns, which showed he still had much to offer.

'Shika', as the veteran midfielder is also affectionate known, only made his return to competitive action in April since he was out in October last year and speculation was rife that he may not be retained by Masandawana ahead of the 2025/26 season.
However, the serial champions announced that Zwane had put pen-to-paper on a contract extension that will keep him at Chloorkop at least until June 2026.
Opening up on the landmark of the deal, which is rare for a soon-to-be 36 year old at one of the big clubs in the PSL, Mahlakgane could not stress more how difficult it was to convince Sundowns to renew.
"Thank you very much, I really appreciate it," Mahlakgane responded when congratulated by Soccer Laduma.

"I'm glad you noticed, maybe people didn't realize the difficulty to convince the club on Themba but finally they got the message.
"My advice was I think Themba is like Luka Modric to them. So they must treat him like that kind of a guy, when the chips are down, you can call on to Themba," the experienced agent added.
