Reports from abroad have suggested Mamelodi Sundowns have doubled their asking price for Thembinkosi Lorch following his standout performances at the FIFA Club World Cup, with the Brazilians now reportedly demanding €1 million (approximately R20 million) for the attacking midfielder’s services.

Lorch, who joined Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca on loan in January, made headlines with his electric displays against global heavyweights Manchester City and Juventus, scoring in the latter fixture and drawing praise from across the continent.
Now, with his loan spell set to expire on 30 June, Sundowns have placed a premium on any permanent deal, according to a foreign report.
Africafoot reports that a source close to the negotiations believes that the initial purchase clause, thought to be €500,000 (R10 million), has now been doubled by Sundowns as they look to capitalise on the 31-year-old’s renewed market value.
It’s a clear indication of how much Lorch’s stock has risen. Since joining Wydad, the former Orlando Pirates star has made 15 appearances across all competitions, including 11 in the Moroccan top flight, and has scored three goals—two in the league and one on the global stage against Juventus.
The Moroccan club had hoped to retain Lorch permanently, but Sundowns’ revised valuation may complicate the move. Whether Wydad will be willing to meet the new figure remains to be seen, especially in a competitive transfer window where Lorch is also attracting overseas interest.
With no option-to-buy clause included in the original agreement, Sundowns remain firmly in control of the player’s future, and could yet recall Lorch, cash in abroad, or push Wydad to meet their increased demands.
As things stand, R20 million is the price for one of South Africa’s most in-form talents, and the clock is ticking.
