However, there is one long-standing PSL record that the Brazilians are chasing, the unbeaten run of 31 league matches in one calendar year held by Kaizer Chiefs since 2005.
Masadawana are on an unbeaten run of 28 league games and need to avoid defeat in their next four matches to break the record held by Amakhosi, where they went unbeaten for 31 matches from January to November 2005, according to PSL data analyst/statistician, Opta Jabu.
According to statistics, 19 of the games won by Chiefs came in their title-winning season under late coach Ted Dumitru and his successor Ernst Middendorp carried on the run the following season until November.
Sundowns' unbeaten run in the league started in September last year, five days after losing to SuperSport United, as they edged Chippa United 1-0 and have not lost since then, culminating in winning their sixth straight title and are also yet to lose since Rulani Mokwena was appointed as the sole head coach.
The Brazilians have had a perfect start in the 2023/24 season, as they've won all their first three league matches.
The reigning champions will be in action again on Wednesday evening, as they visit Richards Bay and will return to league duties next Wednesday when they travel to Polokwane City.

If Sundowns manage to get past those fixtures without a loss, their real test will come when the side comes up against Orlando Pirates next weekend, where they will equal the record held by Chiefs, should they extend their unbeaten streak even past Pirates.
It took the Brazilians years to get close to the League's unbeaten record in a calendar year held by Amakhosi for 18 years.
