While the current Absa Premiership season would have ended this past weekend on May 09, today marks exactly a year ago when Mamelodi Sundowns were crowned champions.
The 2018/19 campaign went down to the wire last year, with Sundowns and Orlando Pirates battling it out until the very last day of the season.

However, despite the Bucs ending the campaign on a high with a 3-0 win over Polokwane City, Sundowns ended up winning the league by two points, after a 1-0 victory over Free State Stars, compliments of a Phakamani Mahlambi goal.

The Brazilians' back-to-back win of the Absa Premiership trophy last year, became their ninth league title in the Premier Soccer League and they are still in the running to add number 10 to their cabinet this season.
This past weekend would have seen an end to the 2019/20 season, however, the PSL made the decision to postpone domestic football indefinitely since March this year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

As things stand, with up to nine games left to be played in the Absa Premiership, an official decision about the continuation of the season is yet to be made and it remains to be seen when it will be safe enough for football action to return.
