An injury sustained nearly two years ago continues to plague the career of Mamelodi Sundowns star Abubeker Nasir, according to head coach Rulani Mokwena.

It was in December 2022 when Nasir clashed with Siyabonga Mpontshane - and he hasn't been the same since.
The Ethiopian international has featured in spurts since sustaining his injury but it appears that the knock he suffered, seemingly to his knee, continues to plague him to this day, which has contributed to his notable absence from the squad.
Mokwena was recently quizzed about the player's situation, to which he pointed at a bleak picture.
"With Nasir, I think the club will make an announcement. But Nasir has got a very, very difficult injury and very complicated injury that he sustained in the Pirates game. (It was) in the duel against Siyabonga Mpontshane and he hasn't recovered and he's really, really struggling to recover, which is a bit unfortunate because you know when you use the term career-threatening," he told journalists.
"That type of situation with Nasir is really, really career-threatening and he needs all the support and that we can give him. Of course he's at a good club that looks after its players and so he's in the right place and hopefully we'll see him back sooner rather than later," he continued.
The player has featured three times this season; though if Mokwena's words are anything to go by, he is unlikely to feature again in this campaign as he continues to make his way back from injury.
