Rampant Sundowns, Maseko Dominate AFL Awards

In addition to the $4 million (±R74 million) prize money, Mamelodi Sundowns players dominated the African Football Awards, which were announced shortly after the final whistle.

Sundowns bagged an impressive 2-0 win over Wydad Casablanca at the Loftus Versveld Stadium on Sunday, which saw them walk away 3-2 aggregate winners, having lost the first leg 2-1.

There was widespread talk from across the continent about the Brazilians' dominance in the competition, where they beat Petro De Luanda, Al Ahly and Wydad Respectively before being crowned champions.

Their on-field dominance was evident in the competition's awards.

Having sprung into life in this particular competition where he remained a constant threat for Rulani Mokwena's side, Thapelo Maseko walked away with the Player of the Tournament award.

His two goals scored against Petro and Al Ahly was enough to see him clinch the Top Goal scorer award.

Ronwen Williams, who has been colossal for the side from Chloorkop with his heroics between the sticks was named as the Goalkeeper of the Tournament.
