New FIFA Loan Rules To Affect DSTV Premiership Champions Mamelodi Sundowns?

With FIFA clamping down on loan rules for 2024, Soccer Laduma looks at how it could affect DStv Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns.

The world football governing body have announced restrictions on the loan market which will see clubs being able to loan out a maximum of six players. Clubs can also have up to six players on loan per season.

Sundowns have not gone out to bring in players on loan, but rather they have been a club known to let their players join other teams on short-term deals.

In the past, the Premiership log leaders have loaned out quite a number of players to give them opportunities to get game-time elsewhere, but they will need to choose carefully on who they loan out once this new rule comes into play.

This season Sundowns have Phakamani Mahlambi, Sammy Seabi, Siphesihle Mkhize, Nyiko Mobbie, Luvuyo Phewa Malebogo Modise, Nicholas Lukhubeni, Musawenkosi Mdluli and Harold Majadibodu out on loan for the campaign, but they will have to limit the number of players who they send out once the new rules are enforced come 2024.

These players had little chance of breaking into the first team on a regular basis, so they were loaned out for the campaign. Sundowns won't have the luxury of sending out too many players on loan in the future.
