Cardoso Reflects On Winning Sundowns Start

The win marked Sundowns' first of the group, propelling them to second place in Group B, level on points with leaders AS FAR Rabat.

While the result was a positive one, Cardoso was quick to emphasize that his team did not play at their best. Despite this, he expressed pride in the players' commitment and their adherence to the tactical game plan.

"Today it was very important to get the points, to get the victory. But it was important to have an attitude, according to that task and that's what pleases me, despite and obviously the objective being done, we had a very strong attitude. Not always played in the best way. I think in the future we will play much better," said the Portuguese coach who told the club's media department after the match.

"We have to grow in certain details, but we have a strong commitment from everybody and that will allow us to grow quicker. So big congratulations to the boys, for how they worked, for the commitment from the way they put their energy on the game, how they connected between themselves. And that allows us to move a step forward, (which has) obviously put ourselves in a more comfortable position than we had been in before. Anyway, we have three top difficult matches ahead as the previous ones and we need to focus and not lose the way that we have to to go so that we can achieve more and more."

Cardoso's side had to grind out victory, with the match showing glimpses of potential, but also exposing areas for improvement. Despite the lack of fluidity in their play, the Brazilians demonstrated resilience and discipline in maintaining their advantage throughout the encounter.

The win was a significant one for Sundowns, who have had a mixed start to their group-stage campaign. With the result, they now find themselves in a strong position in the race for qualification, just behind AS FAR Rabat, with a crucial few games ahead.
