Lucky – that is the word Zwane used to describe the 'freedom' in which he is allowed to operate at Sundowns.
Zwane has been allowed to do less defensive work by his teammates, provided that he gives the club a spark going forward and contribute offensively, whether it is by creating an opportunity for a fellow attacker or scoring a goal himself. When asked about the unique role and how much it enabled him to flourish, the 33-year-old expressed his gratitude towards his teammates and coaches in allowing him the freedom of the park.
"Ja, it does [motivate me] but you need to know that you need to make sure that whatever you do, it works, because the guys are marking for you at the back, but you need to repay them by creating a chance or scoring a goal, so that's what I was doing all these years," Zwane told journalists at his 10-year anniversary celebration with PUMA last week.
"I consider myself as a lucky guy that I play with players who understand me. Players that will say to me, 'no, don't come back. Stay there at the front in the number 10 position, when we get the ball then we'll give it to you to make a plan'. I consider myself lucky," he said.
Zwane was also full of praise for former Bafana Bafana coach Clive Barker for instilling a sense of belief in him during their time together at Mpumalanga Black Aces.
