Mamelodi Sundowns, as they have in recent years, have cast their net far and wide as they close in on their latest South American signing.

At present, the Brazilians have five South Americans in Gaston Sirino, Marcello Allende, Junior Mendieta, Lucas Ribeiro Costa and Erwin Saavedra on their books and now reports from abroad have suggested that Sundowns are about to add one more.
This is after Argentine journalist Cesar Luis Merlo reported that Sundowns have reached a verbal agreement with Argentine top flight outfit Lanus FC for one of their players.
Star midfielder Matias Esquivel's move to Sundowns is 90% done according to the journalist, pending further documentation.

The 24-year-old primarily plays as a central midfielder and has scored three goals and set up four assists in 39 matches played in all competitions.
