Agent On Rulani: We Have A Lot Of Interest In Africa, But...

Rulani Mokwena's agent, Steve Kapelushnik, has been inundated with calls from clubs interested in having the former Mamelodi Sundowns coach on board, as he revealed to the Siya crew that there is interest coming from North Africa and the Middle East.

Sundowns confirmed in a statement on Wednesday that the club had parted ways with Mokwena, a big surprise considering that the coach had won the DStv Premiership title with a record number of points and had also claimed the African Football League title in the past season.

To add to that, Mokwena had recently signed a four-year deal, so there was little suggesting that he would leave the Tshwane giants. But, indications are that there was a rift between Mokwena and sporting director Flemming Berg, which played a part in the 37-year-old's departure from the Premiership champions.

Speaking to the Siya crew, Kapelushnik explained how emotional things have been for Mokwena.

"It's been very emotional for him because he was so committed to the club and the players. We've mutually agreed to part ways. I can't speak about all these things in the media because I am not going to fuel that fire. All I can say is that from where he is standing, he spent four years at the club. His last two years as head saw him breaking every record. He's had phenomenal success, subjectively speaking, at the club. Now this chapter has come to an end and we are going to look forward to the next chapter," he said.

Kapelushnik further revealed that there is serious interest in the reigning coach of the season, but they will not be making any hasty decisions.

"There's a lot of options. There's a lot of clubs that have been contacting me since the story has broken. Because of all the speculation that has been in the media, the phone has been ringing a lot. He did very well in Africa, so we have a lot of interest from North Africa, but we have to take it step by step and look at all the options. We need to take it slowly and see what the right project is for him going forward and then we will make a decision. There is some interest (in the Middle East)."

The agent did not want to get into details regarding the coach's settlement with the club.

"I can't comment on those kinds of things because obviously there is confidentiality clauses and stuff like that."
