In recent seasons, the clash between Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly has become popular in the CAF Champions League and it's never been short of any drama.
From the 5-0 defeat Sundowns handed to the Egyptian giants in 2019, to Pitso Mosimane taking over as coach of Ahly after leaving the Brazilians, this clash has the type of history that will have supporters waiting anxiously for kick off.
They meet on Saturday in a group A clash, having previously met on six occasions in the last three editions of the competition.
In 2018/19, Sundowns hammered Ahly 5-0 in a first leg quarterfinal clash played at Lucas Moripe Stadium. Mosimane was still in charge of Sundowns at the time, recording a victory that will forever be remembered by anyone associated with the Brazilians. Ahly won the second leg 1-0, which was nowhere near enough to overturn the heavy first leg defeat.
The two sides met again in the quarterfinals, in 2019/20, and Ahly got their revenge. The Egyptian giants won the first leg clash in Cairo 2-0 and then held Sundowns to a 1-1 draw in Tshwane.
They met for a third consecutive time in the last eight in 2020/21 and it was Ahly who got the win with Mosimane at the helm. The Egyptians won the first leg clash 2-0 and, as was the case the previous campaign, the second leg finished 1-1.
