Larsen's January Transfer Window Plans

Larsen's January Transfer Window Plans

Magesi FC coach Clinton Larsen has revealed that meetings are ongoing for the Carling Knockout champions to make additions to their squad in January, as he expects a big fight for survival in the second half of the season.

The rookies were on cloud nine after bagging the Carling Knockout title a few weeks ago, but the size of the task at hand in the league has been properly revealed to them in recent weeks. They have not won a match since upsetting Mamelodi Sundowns in the final and they've now dropped to the bottom of the standings.

After nine matches, they are on six points and it's not likely to get easier for them as they make a serious push to avoid getting relegated within a season of being in the top flight. What could help them in January is making signings that will inspire them to safety.

"There are talks going on to reinforce the team. The club understands that for the team to be stronger in the second round, we are going to have to make additions to the squad. Those meetings are ongoing and hopefully the team makes those additions. There won't be any players who are leaving in January, especially the regulars," Larsen said to the Siya crew.

"It's always difficult after winning a cup, but we are not the first and last team to lose a game after a cup final.

"Even though we had a good cup run, I always said it from pre-season that we are going to struggle in terms of depth, with injuries and suspensions. That's what's going on at the moment. I said it in the beginning that our target is 30 points and it still is. That hasn't changed. Just because we are cup winners it doesn't mean we move the goal posts. The reason I was saying that in the beginning was that I am experienced enough to know what I am working with and the capabilities of my squad at disposal. By doing so, it was easy for me to know that we are going to be in a big fight this season, but a fight that we are looking forward to and embracing. That's where we are and I think the club understands now the level of competition we are at."

Magesi's next Premiership match will be against Orlando Pirates on December 29.
