Exclusive: Motupa & Sekgota's Lack Of Game Time Explained

Magesi FC coach Clinton Larsen has given insight into the lack of game time for their pre-season signings, Gift Motupa and Kgaogelo Sekgota.

Both players joined the rookies as free agents before the start of the season, with the club looking to add experience to the squad. Since joining, however, game time has been hard to come by for both.

Former Mamelodi Sundowns attacker Motupa has made one appearance for the club since the start of the campaign, as a substitute in the opening match against Sekhukhune United. Sekgota, meanwhile, has made seven appearances, of which three were as a starter. Before his previous appearance against Marumo Gallants last weekend, Sekgota had last featured in October.

According to Larsen, both players are not injured and need to work harder to get into the team on a regular basis.

"Gift is at the club. He is training. Unfortunately, in the position he is playing in, Wonderboy Makhubu is excelling. So, it's difficult for Gift to get into the team with the presence and form of Wonderboy at the moment. He has to work hard and wait for his time and grab it. We have seven strikers in the team. We have a big striking force and I've always said that I don't pick names. I pick players on form and at the moment the other strikers are ahead of him in the pecking order," Larsen said to the Siya crew.

"Sekgota is fighting with the likes of Chirambadare, with Mashigo and the other players are doing exceptionally well on the wings. The same applies to him. Even though he started (the match), it's been the same case for him."
